Paramore recently released “After Laughter” and the lyrics on the album explore some dark themes about relationships and life.
Prior to getting together with Taylor York to write the album, Hayley Williams was unsure if she even wanted to continue making music with Paramore. Williams recently spoke to Fader, and she said that she’s been dealing with depression over the past few years, and it got so bad that she had to find a therapist.
“For the first time in my life, there wasn’t a pinhole of light at the end of the tunnel. I thought, I just wish everything would stop. It wasn’t in the sense of, I’m going to take my life. It was just hopelessness. Like, What’s the point? I don’t think I understood how dangerous hopelessness is. Everything hurts.”
Hayley Williams says that she even privately quit the band in 2015.
“I just was done,” she says. “I thought, There’s gotta be something else that I’m good at in my life. Maybe it’s time for me to go find that.”
Luckily Taylor York kept writing, and eventually they put together the songs that would be come “After Laughter.”
