You won’t be seeing Brendon Urie sing with Panic! At The Disco this summer, because he’s busy singing in “Kinky Boots” on Broadway. So far his run on Broadway seems to be going well, as Playbill recently reported that ticket sales for “Kinky Boots” are way up thanks to Urie.

Urie has said that joining the musical was a dream, and he recently told Billboard (via Rock Sound) now that his dream has come true, it’s even wilder than he ever could have expected.

“After seeing it, we met afterwards and they were like ‘would you like to be a part of the family, the Kinky Boots family?’ and I said, ‘In any capacity, I’ll get the waters, I’ll polish the boots, I’ll usher people, whatever I can do to be a part of this, the energy is too amazing, I would love to do that’. So that’s really where it began and the rehearsals lately have just been phenomenal, it’s wilder than I could have ever expected.”

Brendon is used to getting a lot of freedom on stage with Panic! At The Disco, and he also talked about the differences that come with performing on Broadway.

“For my band I can just breakout and be me and say whatever. I don’t have any dialogue that’s scripted, just all improv or whatever, point out some kid like ‘that’s great’ or whatever, it’s very free flowing. And this one yeah, I mean you have things you have to do, but there’s still a similar energy to that and it’s so bizarre in the best way, playing this character and knowing that I’m playing the character but then after a while forgetting and going, ‘wait, what just happened?'”
