Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie had a bit of a rough night last night when the band played a gig in South Carolina. At one point when the band was playing “Soul Meets Body” Ben stopped mid-song, ripped out his in ear monitors, took off his guitar and knocked the mic stand over before leaving the stage.

The video has been making the rounds on the Internet and without any context it looks a little confusing. But various fan reports from the show are saying that there were some rowdy fans up near the front of the stage that were causing trouble.

According to a fan comment on YouTube the hostile fans were trying to start a mosh pit and interfering with the show. Fans in attendance noted that the band did return to the stage and play an encore of two songs.

Other fans also noticed how the drummer appears to point someone out in the crowd and people in attendance say that the rowdy fans were escorted out of the show shortly after the incident. You can check out a video clip below.
