Last week the world unfortunately lost a very talented singer when Christina Grimmie was shot and killed while she was signing autographs for fans. The tragedy has had a pretty big impact on the music industry and musicians and fans have been playing tribute to Christina over the past few days.
The tragedy certainly seemed to resonate with Pantera who lost their legendary guitarist Dimebag Darrell back in 2004 when he was shot on stage while performing with his band Damageplan. The incident has made security at venues a very hot topic and Pantera released a statement on their official Facebook page saying that something needs to change.
“We are so sad and disappointed to hear that Christina Grimmie was gunned down the same way that Dimebag Darrell was. After Dime’s murder, we all prayed that our industry (i.e. club owners & promoters) would do whatever they needed to do to protect artists from gun wielding fanatics. Sadly, that’s not the case and another rising star had to pay the consequences with her life. SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE! RIP Christina & RIP Dime, Jeff Thompson, Erin Halk, and Nathan Bray.”
Grimmie was attacked at a venue in Orlando, FL called The Plaza Live and the venue has since released a statement saying that all activities and events at the venue have been suspended until further notice.
